Satan in Paradaise Lost and Dantes Inferno - 1138 Words

After God created the Earth and mankind, all was right in the Holy kingdom. That is until, a friend, the bearer of light, the morning star fell in battle and ultimately in darkness. This fateful battle made true everything we know and live now. Milton and Dante play on this every concept in two very different ways, for Milton a cunning reflection of man and for Dante an animalisitic dunce. Milton and Dante use the Bible stories as a backdrop for their epic poems of love and of loss wherein a single unique character, a bearer of light is made to reverberate humanity and the supreme basic darkness that is the soul of man, one can note these key elements vis-a-vis his appearance, domain and the influence of Lucifer. Since the every†¦show more content†¦This creates a complexity on the subject of man being born in neutrality and the ability to blame evil on the Devil. If Lucifer is truly trapped in ice and has been since he fall from grace, then what of mans natural desire to be evil. In the eyes of Dante this would be entirely mans fault wherein blame can only be pasted to man. Milton however has taken the chalice from man and made it clear that Lucifer was and is a great cause of mans dilapidated relationship with God. Finally, one pictures the great devil, Satan as an atrocious influencer of man and as a cunning mastermind. However this is the greatest difference between Paradise Lost and Inferno. In Paradise Lost the devil is able to leave his dominion of hell and eventually influence mans relationship with God. This demonstrates Lucifers intelligence and defiance of God. This can be very clearly seen in the book of Job, where God and Lucifer are communicating and making a bid of sorts. This is very different from Dantes Lucifer whom is portrayed as an animalistic and basic intellect, as he is â€Å"unable to speak.† (Corsetti 1) This is drawn from the act of chewing, which in itself is very animalistic which leads to a degraded mental copasitly. This almost: â€Å"dehumanises Satan and empathises the issues of the different levels (intellectual, animalistic and vegetative) of the soul.† (Corsetti

Summary of Bennis, Biederman, Organizing Genius The secrets of

Essays on Summary of Bennis, Biederman, Organizing Genius: The secrets of Creative Collaboration. 1998, ISBN: 9780201339895, Basic Books Book Report/Review Organizing Genius: The Secrets of Creative Collaboration of the of theConcerned Professor December 9, 2010 Organizing Genius: The Secrets of Creative Collaboration The book ‘Organizing Genius: The Secrets of Creative Collaboration’ by Bennis and Biederman, to a great extent redefines the concept of leadership and collaboration, in the context of the contemporary business environment. The authors have aptly succeeded in making the point that the days of vertically organized business organizations, relying to a great extent on experience and skills of a selected few are over. The book under consideration has in fact well elaborated the expertise and traits, which can help organizations and individuals, compete and excel in the face of glaring constraints and challenges. The primary focus of this book is oriented around encouraging professionals to evaluate their aims and responsibilities in the context of a group or a team. In today’s globalized world, the opening up of economies and the digitization of business operations, has made the notion of an ‘all empowered leader’, almost arcane. The authors convey their approach by analyzing some reputed enterprises like the production of a full length animation movie by Walt Disney, Manhattan Project that led to the invention of the first atomic weapon, the production of the first user oriented computer by Apple and Xerox and the technological breakthroughs wrought by Lockheed, to convey and establish that all these ventures relied on the cooperative collaboration of a team of versatile individuals, to succeed. The sentences from the book, which are of immense relevance for the project managers, are as follows: â€Å"Being able to work with others does not necessarily mean fitting in a conventional sense.†1 Conventionally the concept of team and teamwork has always been interpreted as a group of disjointed individuals, working on a project, under the benign or autocratic guidance of a larger than life team leader. However, in the true sense, teamwork is actually a synergetic assembly of individuals having skills and expertise that complement and supplement each other. In such teams, the leader stands to be one amongst the equals, whose primary function ought to be redefining reality. Thus, such teams need to be envisaged not as mechanically segregated or disjointed groups, but more as organically cohesive and collaborative entities. â€Å"For Disney, as for Michelangelo, the scale of the project made collaboration a necessity†.2 This statement has never been as true as in the contemporary globalized business environment. With the melting of barriers and the transnational expansion of prospective markets, there exists no single company that has the wherewithal and resources to singlehandedly produce and market the goods and services required by the empowered customers. Hence, a collaborative approach, both within and outside the organizations can help the sustainable organizations to fast react to changes on both the supply and the demand side. No doubt, one today hears the terms like outsourcing, joint ventures, technology sharing, technology transfer and virtual companies. All these contemporary approaches to business do unexceptionally rely on collaboration amongst companies and individuals. It will be really true to say that in the current times, collaboration is more of a necessity than being just one other option. â€Å"There is a kind of leader who recruits only people like himself or herself. There is another, better kind of leader who realizes you can only accomplish extraordinary things by involving excellent people who can do things that you cannot.†3 Any effective leadership by necessity has to be flexible, accommodating and liberal. Also, to achieve success, the overall vision in organizations and groups also has to be collective and changeable. Only such a leadership approach could solicit a hundred percent dedication and cooperation of most of the team members. â€Å"The sense of being part of a uniquely informed cadre, privy to wonderful secrets from which the rest of the world is excluded, is also a powerful social glue.†4 The essence of this sentence is very relevant in the sense that modern leadership can only be effective if it inculcates in the team members a sense of pride and exclusivity about what they are doing. This automatically generates a feeling of camaraderie and cooperation in the team members. â€Å"Creativity is just connecting things†.5 This is the one most important sentence in the book. The scale of the modern ventures, be it product development, production, packaging, logistics or marketing is too big to be guided by the talent of a single genius. In fact, in the 21st century, business is all about exploiting and utilizing the expertise of varied individuals and groups, who are dedicated to a somewhat common vision. There is no denying the fact that this book contains abundant sentences that are conducive to the understanding of the idea of leadership. However, the above 4 sentences do rendered to me some pragmatic insights pertaining to the discipline of project management. Bibliography Warren Bennis Patricia Ward Biederman. Abraham Maslow developed a mot... free essay sample

Abraham Maslow developed a motivational theory, called the Hierarchy of Needs, and proposed it in his paper A Theory of Human Motivation in 1943. Maslows theory proposes that as humans meet their basic needs, they look for ways to satisfy successively higher needs. Maslows Hierarchy of Needs is often represented as a pyramid consisting of five levels. The four lower-order needs, also called deficiency needs, are considered physiological needs, while the top level of needs is considered growth needs, or being needs. The five levels of needs were identified by Maslow as: physiological needs, safety needs, social needs, esteem needs, and self-actualization needs. Maslows Hierarchy of Needs states that we must satisfy each need in order. Only when the lower order needs of physical and emotional well-being are satisfied are we concerned with the higher order needs of influence and personal development. While our deficiency needs must be met, our growth needs are continually influencing our behaviour. We will write a custom essay sample on Abraham Maslow developed a mot or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page We will not be successful at moving onto higher levels until we have been motivated through the lower levels. If our lower level needs are not met we cannot achieve our higher levels of self-actualization which means we will not be able to reach our full potential. So why does Maslows Hierarchy of Needs matter? Hierarchy of Needs theory is still relevant today for understanding human motivation, management training, and personal development. Maslows ideas surrounding the Hierarchy of Needs, concerning the responsibility of employers to provide a workplace environment that encourages and enables employees to fulfil their own unique potential (self-actualization), are today more relevant than ever. Maslows Hierarchy of Needs is a way to not only understand how learners reach their potential but also what barriers might exist to them getting there. The success of an educational intervention is influenced by the learners experiences, motivations, behaviours and psychology. In his own words, Maslow (as cited in Green, 2000) identifies the variability: The specific form that these needs will take will of course vary greatly from person to person. This contributes to the already hefty task of fostering the want to master a skill in an individual – having to consider not only what is in your immediate power, but other potential barriers outside the immediate environment. The growth of self-actualization (Maslow, 1962) refers to the need for personal growth and discovery that is present throughout a persons life. For Maslow, a person is always becoming and never remains static in these terms. In self-actualization, a person comes to find a meaning to life that is important to them (McLeod, 2017, para. 17) As teachers we can do much to accommodate these things in order to make learning better. In terms of learning environment, we will primarily deal with the four deprivation needs. As a teacher I can make extra effort to ensure I contribute to these needs so that the learners ability to learn and achieve in my learning environment will be greatly improved. I know that if I take time to get to know my learners and understand not only their knowledge level but also their level on Maslows Hierarchy of Needs, I will be in a better position to help learners move up the hierarchy. If I can understand the basic needs of each learner then I will be more successful at removing obstacles from learning so that learning can be enhanced and maximized. I will take into consideration certain strategies that I can use in future training. Some of the easier strategies that I can use include providing a comfortable classroom that includes suitable room temperatures and sufficient bathroom and drink breaks. In addition, I can provide well planned lessons and consistent expectations as well as offer an accepting and non-threatening attitude in the way the lesson is taught. These strategies address the physiological and safety needs. In order to address social needs I can create a classroom environment that requires mutual trust and provides opportunities for sharing through meetings, discussions and peer tutoring. I can ensure that I am listening to my students and being supportive. In order to address esteem needs some of the strategies that I can use include developing new knowledge based on background knowledge to help ensure success, take individual needs and abilities into account when planning lessons, teaching using multiple modes of learning, and ensuring that I am alert to student difficulties so that I can intervene as soon as possible. The last need, the need for self-actualization, is much more challenging to have an impact on. However, I feel that there are some strategies that I can apply to help students achieve this growing need including, giving students freedom to explore and discover on their own, making the learning meaningful by connecting it to their own lives, and allowing students to get involved in creative activities ; projects.

How to Fix the United Nations essays

How to Fix the United Nations essays The United Nations doesn't work. As a whole, it was a good idea after World War II, but it has failed as a whole. While it is still a good idea, it needs to go under huge reform to get changed. To get any power in the world, the United Nations needs to be granted real power over the people of the world, from dismantling the governments of the world. One world government under the United Nations or some form of universally combined government is what is needed to combine the people of Earth to peace. The United Nations Security Council has major flaws. One is the veto; one nation can veto any militaristic movement by the United Nations. Another is the fact that other than the five permanent nations, no other nation has a permanent seat. And another is the fact that the United Nations cannot rapidly deploy troops, cannot train troops, and does not have the equipment for the troops to use. The veto is the major flaw, to fix this, there needs to be a change in the way the process is handled. Vetoing in the Security Council needs to be spread out power wise, resting the power in one countries hand leads to the problems the Security Council now has. If say 2/3 veto could happen, it would probably lead to a much stronger Security Council. By doing this, the stabilization of the United Nations will begin. Five nations hold the permanent seats in the United Nations Security Council. The other ten is not permanent making for an imbalance; this imbalance causes a rift that makes the superpowers-the five permanent nations-stronger than the ten others. The Security Council needs to be organized in the same way as the General Assembly. Then all nations would get a say in what happens in the Security Council. Or you could keep the Security Council, but the General Assembly gets to have the final veto. The failure of the United Nations to rapidly deploy troops is another of its problems. With the small number of resources that the Un...

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation - Essay Example Yet it also finds that few hospitals to date have any such written policies and standards. The paper thus recommends that a more inclusive information system be instilled in the healthcare system such that family members of such threatened patients be presented with the option to witness these procedures. It also recommends that healthcare providers of such procedures, if they feel constrained in any manner by such witnessing, may be assisted to change their viewpoints or overcome their constraints in such a manner that their comfort at work is not compromised by such witnessing. This paper contrives to seek out, from the nursing point of view, whether family presence during cardiopulmonary resuscitation and invasive procedures is really necessary and helpful without being an impedance to the relevant nursing staff. In a life-threatening situation (meriting Code Blue status) where patient breathing stops under unnatural or suspicious circumstances cardiopulmonary resuscitation is applied by the present nursing staff with immediate notification to a physician and the nursing supervisor. The same applies for invasive procedures to a large extent. ... ften find themselves in the midst of an ethical dilemma where, on the one side, there are the family members of patient liable to CPR or invasive procedure and, on the other, those physicians and healthcare professionals applying the resuscitation measures (Nibert, 2005) or invasive procedure measures. There are reports of nurses subjected to such dilemmas conceding that they have received no instructional advice in their training programs to allow them to resolve and mitigate such ethical problems (Nibert, 2005). Thus, this paper's intention to investigate various positions on this issue is deemed important and crucial to dispensation of care to critically-ill patients. Background As early as 1987, Doyle et al, in a pioneering study, decided to allow family presence during CPR at their institution (McClenathan et al, 2002). Since then more studies have proceeded and the research findings, instead of conclusively providing evidence to one side, have added to the present state of controversy where there is no general consensus on whether such family presence during this crucial life-supporting and invasive procedure is either beneficial or essential. In the August 22, 2000, issue of 'Circulation' the American Heart Association published its guidelines for family-witnessed resuscitation procedures (McClenathan et al, 2002). It is also noted that the 'Emergency Nurses Association' has since endorsed family-witnessed CPR and recommend that hospitals develop concomitant policies accordingly (Critchell and Marik, 2007). Other healthcare professional bodies similar to these have followed suit but, to date, there are very few hospitals that have actually and actively e xerted themselves in this direction and set
